Marina di Ragusa is a little town in the south of Italy, part of the “Comune of Ragusa”, in the province of Ragusa. Famous for his beautiful thin sandy beaches and lively nightlife, Marina di Ragusa is washed by the Mediterranean sea, in the opposite direction of the island of Malta. The village has an official population of 5,000 but in August, during the summer top season it gets to over 65,000 inhabitants.
Marina di Ragusa is a beach resort with a typical Mediterranean climate almost practically pleasant for more than 8 month per year and it is one of the most equipped and claimed seaside place in south-easte Sicily attracting international visitors from all over the world.
The economy of Marina di Ragusa is based on tourism. Bars, restaurants, hotels and holiday homes are busy during the summer season whilst during the winter the village gets busy only at weekends. The local fishing industry has nearly disappeared and has been replaced by intensive agriculture in greenhouses. From the nearby Market of Vittoria (20 km) green-products get exported to all Europe.
Marina di Ragusa is in the "baroque" heart of the "Val di Noto", part of the Unesco World Heritage list, in a perfect position to visit all the most beautiful and tourist sites. From marina di Ragusa you can easily reach Ragusa Ibla (25 km), Scicli (12 km), Modica (30 km), Noto (70 km), Donnafugata Castle (12Km) and all the sites shown on the "TV Inspector Montalbano". Since 2009 Marina di Ragusa has received the "Blue Flag" eco-label, awarded by Fee (Foundation for Environmental Education) for the quality of his coast, water, services, safety measures and environmental education. Marina di Ragusa has always been elected whitin the 10 most beautiful beaches in Italy by Trip Advisor.
Many and different cultural and musical events characterize the summer season of Marina di Ragusa whose popularity hits the highest level during the feast of Santa Maria di Porto Salvo, the 15th August (our Lady of Portosalvo). A statue of the Virgin is carried in a procession at sea, followed by a large fleet of boats including fishing boats.
The New Port of Marina di Ragusa officially opened in July 2009, it aims to became one of the major tourist ports of the island. It is the biggest tourist marina of Sicily and can moor over 800 boats. In 2010 many shops, supermarket and a bar were opened.
